The other day I was doing some yard work when I was approached by two Jehovah's Witnesses. The man who was talking to me read from 2 Timothy 3 saying how things will get worse in the last days. I tried to turn his attention from how things are bad to our hope in Christ. I can tell about halfway through the conversation, I was losing this guy. He was so wrapped up in his religion that he did not want to see Christ as our hope.
Now why I am bringing this up, you might be asking. Well I am not doing it to boast about my accomplishment, but to share what the Lord taught me. After the Jehovah's Witnesses left, I began to think about my gospel presentation and thought, "Did I give it my all?" I believe the Holy Spirit gave me the words to say at that moment. I also believe that God reminded me that I preached the Word out of season. 2 Timothy 4:2 says, "preach the word; be ready in season and out of season." I was out of season during that time preaching the gospel to this Jehovah's Witness. I was in my yard ready to do yard work. I was also in a t-shirt, torn jeans, and a dirty Houston Texans hat.
No matter where we are, whether Wal-Mart, in the park, or even making a deposit in the bank, we as followers of Jesus need to be ready out of season to preach the word to people all around us even if we are asked why do we have hope in Jesus. 1 Peter 3:15 says, "always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you."
