Book Review: Nearing Home by Billy Graham

"I never thought I would live to be this old," are the words Billy Graham chose to start what could be his last book, Nearing Home. This book is about how to cope with aging and learning how to finish well before God takes you to Heaven. This book is filled with lessons Graham has learned about aging as well as perspectives from others who are going through the aging process.

I admire Graham for writing a chapter on retirement because the subject seems to be very vague in the evangelical world. We have heard the argument no one should retire because the Bible does not mention it to you should retire and enjoy what God has given. Graham gives wise counsel in that chapter that every Christian, regardless of age, needs to think about.

This book also deals with building our foundation on Christ not our age. There was one chapter that dealt with the destination of death. As I am writing this, one of our teens at church recently lost her grandfather and a friend of mine with her husband had to bury their newborn son two days ago. So the chapter on death reminded of two great truths from the Bible:

The last enemy to be destroyed is death (1 Corinthians 15:26)

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away (Revelation 21:4)

This book is good for all Christians to read regardless of age because one day, Lord willing, we will be up in age, and need encouragement as we age.

Thanks Booksneeze for letting me review this book.
