There is still a lot of debate over the use of words when it comes to sharing the gospel. There are some that say yes, we must preach the gospel while others say we don't have to use words to witness. Those who say it's okay not to use words often to refer to St. Francis' advice, "Preach the Gospel always and if necessary use words." It is amazing how some Christians will use that as a cop out to not opening their mouths to share the gospel. Since when was it okay to be evangelistic mimes?
One question that comes to mind is, should our lives demonstrate the gospel? Yes, but that is not an excuse for neglecting words in sharing the gospel. While demonstrating the gospel is important in the life of a Christian. We must not neglect the use of words in sharing the gospel.
What is the difference between declaring the gospel and demonstrating the gospel?
Declaring the gospel is telling people the good news of what God has done in Christ for us. Demonstrating the gospel shows people that we have embraced the good news of what God has done in Christ for us.
Demonstrating the gospel is a good thing, but if there is no declaration, then all you're showing people is that you are a good moral person.
