Jesus is My Shepherd; I Shall Not Want

We all know Psalm 23, whether you are a Christian or not. We know it because we often hear it at funerals or quote in some movie. I will never forget LL Cool J quoting it just before he and two other people were about to go fight a shark in one of his movies.

As I was reading it the other day, the Holy Spirit began to speak to me through the Scriptures, which He is God and He can do that, saying that Jesus is our Shepherd. In John 10, Jesus referred to Himself as the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep. 1 Peter 5 talks about Jesus being the Chief Shepherd over those who tend to the flock of God, which are Pastors in the church.

So lets read the 23rd Psalm with Jesus being the Shepherd:

(Jesus) is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake (because He has imputed His righteousness on me).

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies (and the great enemy of God, Satan);
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
forever (because you have prepared a place for me).
