Book Review: The Heart of the Gospel by Robert Coleman

There are books on theology and books on evangelism. Usually you would find them in separate areas in a Christian bookstore, but rarely would you find a book on evangelism that addresses theological issues. This is where Robert Coleman's The Heart of the Gospel comes into that category.

Coleman's starts the book of by saying that theology and evangelism belongs together. He quotes C.E. Autrey saying, "Theology is to evangelism what the skeleton is to the body. Remove the skeleton and the body becomes a helpless quivering mass of jelly-like substance." Coleman takes key theological issues such as the character of God, the Bible, the death of Jesus, and sanctification. Coleman even takes issues, such as providence and election, and address them from the perspective of Arminism and Calvinism. Something you normally find in a theology book, but since this addresses both evangelism and theology, it was appropriate to mention both views in certain issues.

This is a book that should be required to read in every class on Evangelism in seminary and even in Christian colleges that teach evangelism. It was such a delight to read and even consider it as one of my favorites on evangelism.

Thanks Baker Books for letting me review this book.
