What Discipleship is All About

To some evangelicals, discipleship is a word that could be taken in one of two ways: First, Discipleship is regarded as a class a Christian takes to be school on how to grow as a follower of Christ. Second, discipleship is for those who are new to the faith and being schooled on how to be a "good" Christian.

Notice these two ways that discipleship is looked upon is about what a Christian can learn. Is that what disciple about? Yes and no. The problem is we can make about learning the fundamentals of the Christian faith with no application, or we leave an impression that discipleship is just a class.

So, what is discipleship all about? Brian G Hedges in his book, Christ Formed in You, said:

Discipleship is about building our lives around Jesus. He is our treasure and great reward. And like the construction of a bank around its vault, all the various parts of our lives should be built around Christ and the certain hope of eternal, unfading riches that are ours in him
