Prayer for Easter
Easter is my favorite time of the year because we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Unfortunately, many churches will celebrate something else. Some churches will drop candy from a helicopter. Some churches might start some marriage sermon series because Easter draws a crowd. Some Christians will even associate Easter with a bunny rabbit.
The last time I checked, Jesus was the one who came out the tomb, not some mutated bunny rabbit with a basket full of candy. Bugs Bunny did not die on the cross for my sin, somehow he would con Daffy Duck in doing it. Easter is all about Jesus not a furry white animal and chocolate. I left for you a simple prayer for this Easter season as we reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus:
Lord Jesus,
This week we take time to remember your death and resurrection. Many Christians will celebrate by having egg hunts, inviting football stars, or having a marriage conference. All of those are good, but they do not compare to what you have done for us.
You fulfilled the Law on our behalf. You were tempted just as we are yet without sin. You were "delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." Jesus we thank you that you were our propitiation because we would bare the wrath of God without you.
I pray this Easter, we will remember what you have done not what we can do for you. As we long for your return, I pray this gospel will burn in our hearts to share you with people who not right with the Father.
In your name, the only name given by which men can be saved, Amen
