Book Review: A Theology of Luke and Acts by Darrell Bock

Luke and Acts are the only two books of the Bible written by a physician named Luke who was writing to a man named Theophilus, which, his name in Greek means "Lover of God." There have been many separate commentaries on Luke and Acts, but never has there been one volume connecting both books. That is where Darrell Bock's latest book A Theology of Luke and Acts comes in.

Bock does an amazing job going through both books in a way as an introduction for those who are not familiar with Luke and Acts. Keep in mind this is not a commentary for Luke and Acts, but a theological look at both books. Bock goes through different theological teachings that are found in both books including eschatology, discipleship, and the Law.

One of the curiosities of Luke and Acts is are they two separate books or are they connected. Granted both books are separate in our English Bible, Luke being a gospel and Acts being classified as a history book in the New Testament. Bock does a great job in connecting Luke and Acts as one story rather than two separate stories. Bock said, "So we read Luke-Acts as Luke-Acts on the basis of its literary and theological unity, not on the basis of its being issued as two volumes from one author."

I highly recommend this book for all pastors and theologians. This book is a great tool to have when studying or preaching Luke and Acts.

Thanks Zondervan for letting me review this book.
