Book Review: Organic Outreach For Families by Kevin G Harney & Sherry Harney

As Christian, we believe the church exists for the glory of God. The church is to go out and make disciples by sharing the gospel as well as teaching them the commands of Jesus. There has been many debates over how evangelism is suppose to be done whether we use words or not. Kevin Harney shares effective methods of outreach in his two previous books, Organic Outreach for Ordinary People and Organic Outreach for Churches.

This time, Kevin Harney along with his wife, Sherry, talk about the family as a means of outreach in Organic Outreach for Families. The goal of this book is to teach the reader(s) how to turn their home into a lighthouse for everyone who lives around them. This book is divided into three parts. The first part deals reaching out in your home. The Harneys discuss living the gospel in their homes to sharing Jesus with their children. What also makes this book unique is Kevin and Sherry's three boys, Zack, Josh, and Nate, also share stories from growing up how their home was a lighthouse for the gospel.

The second part of the book deals with raising children to be light in a dark place. In our culture where sin is glorified, it can be difficult to raise children to be holy as God commanded us in the Bible. The Harneys talk about our homes being a safe haven and even a place of prayer. The final part of the book deals with turning our homes into a lighthouse with the last chapter discussing how overcome outreach difficulties.

Earlier this year, I got to read Kevin's last book, Organic Outreach for Churches and was challenged by what he wrote. I knew this book will be as equaling challenging because we are talking about our homes becoming a place of light to share the gospel. I think families who have a heart for their communities should read this book as also churches need to read this book to have ideas on reaching their communities with the gospel from the home.

Thanks Zondervan for letting me review this book.
