But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9)
The church is not only a chosen nation, but we are called to worship God. Many in the church would associate worship with singing which is part of our worship, but worship is suppose to not only take place in a church service but also in our everyday life. Jesus told the woman at the well, the place for worship is irrelevant. Worship is not constrained to a specific place.
Paul wrote in Romans:
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect (Romans 12:1-2)
We are to worship with our lives beyond the four walls our church buildings. We are to worship God in our homes, cars, work place, and even in the supermarket. We worship God when we evangelize to lost people because we are declaring His excellencies who called us in His marvelous light, where we have fellowship with the church and God's Son, Jesus Christ.
Do not mistake in reading this that I am saying, "You can worship anywhere so why attend a worship service." If you do that, then that maybe a sign you are not a regenerated believer.
As a church, we worship God by congregational singing, the preaching of the Bible, listening to the preaching of the Bible, prayer, evangelism, discipleship, fellowshipping with your fellow believers, observing the sacraments of the church (Lord's Supper & Baptism), and living our daily lives that reflects the glory of God.
The church is called to worship God. I know this is not written on a Sunday, but we all need a reminder that worship takes place not only in corporate worship in a church building. Worship takes place as the church does exactly what it is suppose to be and that is the people of God reflecting the character of God and proclaiming the gospel.
