Praying for Celebrities

Our culture is fascinated with celebrities. How many entertainment talk shows are watched everyday? When we go to the Supermarket, what do we see? The latest news, whether it is true or not, about our favorite movie stars. How many times do we see something tragic in their lives that just make us stop and pray? In fact, a more appropriate question should be, do we pray for celebrities?

Scripture tells us to pray for our governing officals, but do we pray for those who are famous? Years ago, an evangelism professor challenged us to pray for Tiger Woods so not only would he meet Jesus but that he will be lead others to Jesus through his influence. That is a great challenge which not many took seriously.

We see celebrities through very thin lenses. Every mistake they make is for the world to see and know. How many times do you hear about female celebrities that had wardrobe malfunctions? Most celebrities do not even have a private life so they cannot spend time with friends and family without cameras pointed in their direction.

How can I pray for a celebrity? Here are some practical ways you can:

1. Pray they will come to know Jesus, if they are not a Christian. If they are, pray that they will not compromise their beliefs for the sake of stardom. If they are a Christian that has backslid, pray the Holy Spirit will begin to work in their lives to repent of their sin.

2. Pray for their safety as well as their family and friends' safety.

3. Pray people will see them as human beings just like them.

4. Pray that Christians will see them as Jesus sees them.

Remember 1 Timothy 2:1 says that "supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people," which includes people who are known all over the world that may not even know your name.
