An Example of Euangelion

If you are wondering what Euangelion means, it is the Greek word for Gospel. This word is used when announcing a major military victory and the people will celebrate. It was not just say, "Yeah." It was when people were dancing and celebrating in the streets.

This past Friday in the city of Boston, we saw an example of euangelion. After law enforcement officials captured the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombing, the city celebrated. People were swarming the streets and police officers were shaking each other's hand as they caught him. Here is a couple of videos of those celebrations:

In these videos, people were chanting, "USA, USA." Some were chanting, "Boston." They were even singing the National Anthem. This is a picture of how Christians should celebrate the good news. Jesus came to die on our place for our sins. Our worship should be filled with affections for Christ. Just as the people of Boston were thanking law enforcement officials this past Friday, we should always be grateful for what Jesus has done on the cross.

We are not going to die the eternal death due to us because of the finished work of Jesus. That should cause us to celebrate. God took His Son as our sacrifice. Jesus was our ransom. Just as the people of Boston celebrated this past Friday, we should celebrate the good news of what God has done through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Here is one way, worship the Lord by listening and reading the words to this song from The Austin Stone called, "Love Shines:"
