If God Accepted Sin

I am sure you have heard the announcement that World Vision has allowed same-sex couple who are married to be employed by them. A great number of blogs, tweets, and facebook posts have been all over the Internet. Some are praising their decision and others are heartbroken over the fact they have thrown Biblical truth out the window.

We live in a day where some Christians have accept some sins, if not all, as a normal lifestyle. Not only that but we live a day where we compromise what we believe for the sake of popularity. We think this is acceptable to God. A thought came to me, which is what if God accepted sin. If you have read the Bible, you know that God cannot because His eyes are too pure to look at sin (Hab. 1:13) and He is light and in Him there is no darkness (1 John 1:5).

If God accepted sin then there would have been no point for Him to write His law. The Apostle Paul wrote that "through the law comes knowledge of sin" (Romans 3:20). How does a child know right from wrong at school? The rules that are posted in the classroom such as "no talking" or "no running in the hallway." If there was no law, yes, we would not know what sin was.

If God accepted sin, then His acts of judgement are nothing more than acts of cruelty. The flood was an act of judgement as well as the Jewish Exile. Think about Jesus dying on the cross for our sins. Atheists have said that the cross was a form of cosmic child abuse. If God accepted sin, then the atheists are right. The Bible tells us that "he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace" (Isaiah 53:5). Jesus became the propitiation of our sins while He was on the cross to show God's righteousness "because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins" (Romans 3:25).

If God accepted sins, then what is the point of living a holy life. The Bible tells us "Be holy as I am holy" (1 Peter 1:16). "For God has not called us for impurity, but in holiness" (1 Thessalonians 4:7). God is pure and wants us to be pure. Yes, we will sin, but must confess our sins. The Apostle John wrote, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).

There is no such thing as a light sin like there is such a thing as a white lie. All sin is an offense to God. Does He accept sin no, but there is mercy, grace, and forgiveness for sinners. The gospel is about a God who pursues sinners by sending His only Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to live the life they could not live, died the death we could not live, and rise again to seal the deal for our justification. When God accepts us upon receiving Jesus, he gives us His Holy Spirit to conform us to likeness of Jesus.
