Book Review: Know the Creeds and Councils by Justin Holcomb

The first time I ever heard a creed of any kind was not during a church service. It was on a Petra CD. It was the album "Beyond Belief," which is one of my favorite albums by them, that I heard a song called "Creed," which was based on The Apostle's Creed.

I am not the only Christian who attended church as a teenager that does not know what a creed is. Perhaps some of them listened to that Petra song. I am thankful that there is a resurgence for Christians to study more theology and know more of the God of the Bible. There have been a growing number of books on theological beliefs that have been around for generations as well as history of key figures in Christianity and study on creeds, catechisms, and confessions.

Justin Holcomb has created the "Know Series" to equip Christians about doctrinal beliefs in the Christian faith as well whose teaching to watch for. In this book, Holcomb takes a look at the creeds of the Christian faith and the councils that have gathered together to affirm the faith in Know The Creeds and Councils.

The book begins with a simple introduction to what are creeds, councils, catechisms, and confessions. Holcomb goes through each of these confessions and gives what their purpose was and how were they used. The rest of the book deals with important creeds for the Christian faith as well their relevance. The same can be said for the councils. Holcomb writes in a way that anyone who is a new believer or someone outside the faith can read and understand.

This is great book to have as resource in studying church history. This is great for small group talks as well. Any pastor will benefit to have this book in their library.

Thanks Booklook Bloggers for letting me review this book.
