If you have not noticed, I not posted anything on the blog since last Friday. Is it because I have writer's block, which will not be the first time. No, this past week, my wife and I celebrated our 14th anniversary which was a great day of celebration for both of us. It was also a time for me to take a break from writing which every blogger needs to do from time to time. I was originally going to write this post on Monday, but I thought it was necessary to write about rest.
You probably noticed that the title of this post says, "Rest in the Midst of Chaos." You maybe wondering why I have titled this post in that way. It is because this past week I have experienced rest in the midst of chaos. Now before I go any further, let me clear the air. My marriage with my wife is strong, my kids are doing great other than wanting the school year to end, and my health is good. The chaos we have been experiencing has been around since the end of February.
We had a slab leak underneath our house and had to have the plumbing repaired. I have to admit, it was very unsettling because we were not sure how bad it was going to be but by God's grace, the job was done in a few days. We also had to have both our bathrooms redone because the plumbers drilled in both of them. We got the floors redone which looks great. My wife and I even repainted the bathrooms which was fun especially being in one small bathroom. Another fun part was a family of four sharing one bathroom while floor work and painting was being completed.
My wife and I decided that it was time to get new flooring for our house. If you have kids and/or pets, you know that carpet and them are not the best of friends. What I found out is that is cheaper to pull your own flooring than have the contractors do it. My thinking is how are we going to get all this done by the time the contractors come. By God's grace some friends came over and helped us get the flooring out. What amazed me is that a job that was going to take all day only took three hours to do.
To add more to the chaos, this past week our church has had a lot of things to deal with. First, our church is also remodeling. Second, a man who has been attending our church is in trouble with the law. Third, one of our church members was rushed to the hospital. Finally, one of our families will be moving to another city because of a job offer, which is great but sucks that they are leaving.
I know I have shared a lot but throughout all the chaotic things that have been happening the one thing that is needed is rest. I am not just talking sleep. Believe me I have had a lot of late nights the past few months. I am talking about resting in the arms of God throughout a chaotic time. It is something I learned while going through cancer but needed to be reminded again.
I have seen God's grace and His provision during this time. I truly believe that God does provide for our practical needs. I believe it was Darrin Patrick who said, "God provides for all of our needs and for some of our wants." I have seen this in last couple of months.
I have also seen that God always wants us to rest in Him. God does care for us even in the midst of chaos. Psalm 62:8, "Trust Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before him; God is a refuge." No matter how big or small you chaotic season of life is right now, you can always find rest in the arms of the Heavenly Father who cares for you.
