I hate repeating myself. I hate repeating myself when I am asking a question that demands a response. When my wife gasps about something she is reading or watching on TV, not sure what is going, I would come in the room and ask what's wrong. She would not respond so I would ask again, what's wrong. Still no answer, then, in a loving Christian manner (note the sarcasm) would say, "For the third time, what's wrong?" Then I would get my response.
Parents, have you ever repeated yourself to your kids? I think all parents are guilty of that and you think your kids are deaf. My mom called it selective hearing. It is frustrating. Can I get a witness?
Have you ever notice how repetitive the Bible can be? Think about the Old Testament when it tells you about a certain person who is the son of this person who is the son of this person. Then two verses later, you see the same thing. In the New Testament, we see the same thing. Three of the four gospels are almost identical and the apostle Paul has the same teachings in different letters.
Now you maybe thinking that this is frustrating for someone like me who does not like repeating himself. Actually, I am thankful that the Bible is repetitive. We as infinite creature made in the image of God have a tendency to forget. We might forget dates, names, and even how to get somewhere. We are even prone to forget the gospel. Paul wrote in his letter to the Corinthian church:
Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold fast to the word I preached to you—unless you believed in vain (1 Corinthians 15:1-2).
Christians need to hear the gospel over and over again because we can forget about especially in a world that has conflicting messages that go against Christianity. If it were not for the repetition of the Bible, we would not remember why we are sinners and what God had to do to atone for our sins so that we may gain eternal life through Jesus Christ. Every word of the Bible is breathed out by God and there is no mistake on it's repetition.
