Book Review: Unshaken by Crawford W. Loritts Jr.

In this day and age, it is easy to lose faith. We see hostility towards Christians in America, the terror attacks in France, and even struggles in our own lives. The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 4 says,

Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart...We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you...So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal (2 Corinthians 4:1; 8-12; 16-18).

With all the troubles in his ministry, Paul says to his readers, we will not lose heart.

It is not doubt that Christians in the 21st century need some encouragement and I am not talking about teachings to make them feel good. I am talking about encouragement that will point us back to God who is never changing and never failing. Crawford W. Loritts, Jr. has written a book for those who need encouragement, which is all of us, called, Unshaken.

Loritts writes that God is not intimidated by anything we face whether it is the loss of a loved one, financial trouble, or an illness. Whatever comes our way God is not shocked by it and He can handle it. He also reminds us that our salvation is a done deal. With some many uncertainties in this world, one thing we can be sure of is that nothing can separate us from the love of God as Romans 8:39 teaches us.

We can rest knowing that Christ has our future in His hands no matter what the world may throw at us. Not only are we to have faith in this God who cannot be shaken, but we must demonstrate that faith to the world as we go on mission. Finally, in a world of uncertainty, we have faith in an all-powerful Christ who gives us the strength to march on.

If you need a simple book of encouragement, this is one for you. If you know someone who could use some encouragement or even assurance that God is for them, this is a good book to read with them along with the Bible.

Thanks Crossway for letting me review this book.
