Martyn Lloyd-Jones was a respected preacher, pastor, and author in his day. Thousands would gather at the Westminster Chapel to hear his sermons which was spoken with passion. His books continue to be published and sought out to this day.
Many still consider Lloyd-Jones a voice for the 21st century. There have been a few biographical works written on Lloyd-Jones so we can know more about the man and his theology. This book, Martyn Lloyd-Jones: His Life and Relevance for the 21st Century, was written by someone who knew the man a lot better than those who heard his sermons and read his books. Christopher Catherwood is the eldest grandson of Martyn Lloyd-Jones and gives us what he was like, not just in ministry, but also away from the pulpit.
Catherwood writes about who Lloyd-Jones was and how he approached the preaching ministry. He also wrote about his time at Westminster Chapel and the importance of missions. He also made clear that Lloyd-Jones was not out for a popularity contest, he was out to get people to hear the gospel and hopefully people will get saved. Catherwood, being Lloyd-Jones' eldest grandchild knew the man in a way many did not. Catherwood addressed his grandfather's family life and the importance of family.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones is still considered one of the most influential figures for pastors today. Many want to model his passion but they know there can never be another Martyn Lloyd-Jones. This biography serves as a great introductory work to Lloyd-Jones. This book would make a great addition to the growing number of biographies, not just on Lloyd-Jones, but on all those who have gone before us.
Thanks Crossway for letting me this review this book
