Book Review: Parables by John MacArthur

One of the ways Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God while on earth was through the use of parables. Parables are stories that teach something. There has been debate from scholars whether these stories are just teachings Jesus came up to make a point or were they based on real life circumstances.

John MacArthur has written a book that takes a look at these stories Jesus taught, his book, Parables. MacArthur makes it clear that is book is not an in-depth commentary, which he does have a commentary set available as well as a study Bible. This book serves as an introductory guide to the Parables of Jesus as seen in the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, and Luke).

Each chapter talks about the theme of Jesus' parables and what parable goes with that theme. For example, in chapter two, Jesus has lessons are receiving the Word of God. MacArthur points out what parables go with that theme as he does with all the parables of Jesus.

As mentioned earlier this book is not a commentary but an introduction to the parables of Jesus. This book will serve as a good study aid for this who teach and preach the Bible. It would also be good in studying the Bible especially when going through the gospels.

Thanks BookLook Bloggers for letting me review this book.
