Book Review: Seeing Jesus by Nancy Guthrie

There is a growing awareness in the church today that all of the Bible points to Jesus. I remember attending church as a teen, we saw the Old Testament completely separate from the New Testament. There were not many lessons of Jesus being the center of the entire Bible especially in the Old Testament.

Nancy Guthrie has a new devotional that shows her readers how Jesus is shown in the Old Testament. This book is appropriately titled, Seeing Jesus: Seeking and Finding Him in the Scriptures. This devotional is based on another work from Guthrie called The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament.

This devotional has 60 short chapters which Guthrie takes an Old Testament passage, starting with Genesis, and couples it with a passage in the New Testament to point the reader to Jesus Christ. She covers many different topics in this book such as Jesus being the agent of creation, Jesus as our Great High Priest, and the new covenant Jesus brings to His followers. Each chapter is about 3 to 4 pages long so don't think you are getting a Systematic Theology book when you want to read this book. Each chapter also ends with a little prayer to read quietly or say aloud based on what you have read.

I love this devotional. I love how it sticks with the scriptures. It is very simplistic for those who want a "light" devotional which is not that "light." This would be a great devotional to read with your family, friends, or even co-workers, if you are in a place where you can do that.

Thanks Tyndale House Publishers for letting me review this book.
