The Gospel Should Excite Us

If you have followed me on social media over the years, you are aware that I am a big Houston sports fan especially the Astros. I have been a long suffering Astros fan since I was a kid. I have watched them win division titles, lose 100 games in a couple of season, and win the World Series two years ago. Tonight begins their second trip to the World Series in three years as they face the Washington Nationals.

As much I as I am excited about seeing the Astros in the World Series again, nothing excites me more than the gospel. The gospel tells that Christ redeemed us from our sins by taking our place on the cross. We have been giving His righteousness meaning we are righteous in God's sight as if He was looking at Jesus as He looks on us. Christ lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died. The glory of being justified is that God looks at us just as if we never sinned because Jesus took the punishment that brought us peace just as if He did sin, which He did not.

As much excitement comes when your favorite team wins the big one, they come and go. The Houston Rockets won two NBA Championships in the 1990's and that excitement went away. The Astros' 2017 World Series win is still fresh in the minds of a lot fans including myself, but that excitement will go away. Our excitement for the gospel should never go away because we will always be righteous in God's sight though we will stumble and fall. That is why it important to be reminded of the gospel everyday because, as Martin Luther points out, we are prone to forget it. We have God's Word to show us His gospel so I encourage you, in the words of Charles Spurgeon, rest in the Bible because it contains the message that Christians are to get excited about.
