Focus on Christ During This Election Season

If 2020 wasn't crazy enough, we are now heading into the final month of the election season. We are still in a pandemic, racial tension is happening in America, people are losing jobs, and some churches are suing their local or state governments from government overreach. You can't turn on the news without seeing more chaos all around us. In spite of everything around us, Christians need to do one thing: focus on Jesus.

Yes, our world is in chaos, but we must keep Jesus at the center of our lives despite what is happening all around us. Hebrews says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God" (Hebrews 12:1-2). The Bible also tells us to set our minds "on things that are above, not on things that are on earth" (Colossians 3:2).

As we go down the home stretch in this election season let us keep our minds on Jesus. As we keep our focus on Him, let us pray for our leaders and the people are running for office:

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way (1 Timothy 2:1-2).

As we engage with people during this season, let our conversations be God-honoring and pointing people to our King who will never lose His throne no matter who occupies the White House.
