Giving Thanks In The Midst of Pandemic

Its November 2020 and we are still in a pandemic. The experts say it should be not be more than two months till this passes. Well that was back in March. In some states gathering are being limited to 10 people, churches are closed, and we are still wearing masks in almost everywhere we go.

We are even in the midst of a crazy election where one man is declaring victory while the other says he has a case of voter fraud. Riots and protests are still happening along with toilet paper shortages yet again. One may look at the world during this season and wonder why we should be thankful.

Christians are called to be thankful at all times:

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7).

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him (Colossians 3:15-17).

Notice these passages have a theme of expressing thanks to God. We are to give God thanks in everything that happens in our lives. Yes, even in the midst of a pandemic. We are to let the peace of Christ rule in us and His word dwell while being thankful. Whatever we do, we are to give God glory and be thankful to Him.

I don't know what your plans are for this Thanksgiving. You may be staying home as the CDC recommends or you decide to take a risk to see members of your family. You might be working the day of and after Thanksgiving. Whatever your plans are for Thanksgiving, there is one thing for sure. Christians are to be thankful. We have a God that is still on the throne. He is exalted and no plan can frustrate Him. Nothing can separate us from His love even in the midst of a pandemic.
