Never Take Credit for What God Has Done

Let's admit it, mankind are glory hounds. We like to take credit for most, if not all, of the work we do. We like to get recognition for the achievements we accomplish.

The church is no exception. Some churches love to recognize people for their years of service. One church I know gives a championship belt to a staff member every month as their champion for being a such a hard worker.

There is nothing wrong with being recognized for hard work or years of service, but there is something wrong when we take credit for something God has done.

As one who went through cancer, many were congratulating me over the years for staying healthy, which is really foolish. Cancer is something I cannot control. People will tell me that I beat it. No, I did not.

Yes, I went to the doctor, got myself checked out, and then went through chemotherapy, yet it was God who healed me. No, it was not a miracle. God used conventional means to make me well. When someone says, "I beat cancer," I simply reply, "I will never take credit for what God did."

Recently, I had a conversation with a family member who was going through some rough stuff over the past couple of years including almost abandoning the faith. I expressed how far that person has come. My family member replied, "I cannot take credit for what the Lord has done."

As Christians, we can never take credit for what the Lord has done whether is it being healed of an illness or someone coming to faith in Christ. We can never take credit for our own salvation because it is God who saved us, not our works (Ephesians 2:8-9).

Christians, give all glory and honor to God even in your achievements, for everything we have comes from Him.
