An Article from Ligonier on Lordship Salvation

The Lordship Controversy occurred in the last two decades of the twentieth century. It was a debate largely between dispensational theologians regarding the nature of salvation and the place of repentance in the life of true believers. On one side of the Lordship Controversy was a company of “Free Grace” theologians who denied that repentance and obedience are necessary in the Christian life. On the other side of the controversy was a group of Calvinistic theologians who taught that although salvation is based only on God’s sovereign grace, God requires the evangelical response of repentance and faith in our reception of the gospel.

The latter emphasized the importance of the lordship of Christ in reaction to the denial of the need for repentance and the fruit of obedience in the teaching of the proponents of the Free Grace movement. By undermining the place of repentance and good works in the life of a believer, proponents of the Free Grace movement essentially advanced an antinomian view of justification. Although there was enough uniformity on each side of the debate to label these two different positions, there were also nuances in the way in which individual figures articulated the dynamics of both the Free Grace and the Lordship Salvation approach to the doctrine of salvation.

Theology in Dialogue with R.C. Sproul and Derek Thomas

Ligonier:

Answering theological questions from his students has been a continual commitment throughout Dr. R.C. Sproul’s ministry. On Friday, January 15, 2016, Dr. Sproul was joined by Ligonier teaching fellow Dr. Derek Thomas for a relaxed and informative evening of theology and dialogue. These notable theologians and pastors answered questions submitted through social media and from a live audience at Saint Andrew’s Chapel in Sanford, FL. The topics addressed included God’s nature, Islam, finding a local church, Scripture, and more.

One of the greatest quarterbacks who ever played football had his number retired last night during the Chicago Bears/Green Bay Packers game. Even though I am not a huge Packer fan, I am respect Brett Favre. He was the toughest QB in the game.

Bible Reading Plans for 2015 from Ligonier

Here is a list Justin Taylor made last year.

This year I began year one of a three year Bible reading plan Tim Chester put together. If you want a reading plan that is not so rushed, this would be the one to do. Cannot wait to begin year two.

Denny Burk's post had a great list of videos. I have to admit I have not seen most of them. There were two videos this year that did catch my attention on YouTube that I would like to share.

The first one is a battle that will most likely never happen in the movies. Comic books? Maybe. It is a battle between Batman and Darth Vader. Yes, you read it correctly, the Dark Knight vs. the Dark Lord of the Sith.

This next video was one I thought was real. If you know the rules of soccer, then you know this was not real but one for good laughs. Goalie Scott Sterling shows his mad skills on the field in a shootout something I hope my daughter, who is the goalie on her team, does not have to do. What made this video even more hilarious are the announcers.

And if that wasn't enough, he gets a Christmas present from the announcers. Yeah, I bet you can guess what will happen.
