The Gospel Shows Us The Way To God

As far as I can remember, almost every gospel presentation I have heard always say that Jesus died so that we can have eternal life, which is true. Romans 6:23 says that "the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." As I was reading God is the Gospel by John Piper, I came across this quote that has been on my mind for a while, "The gospel is not a way to get people to heaven; it is a way to get people to God."

After reading this, I thought about what 1 Peter 3:18 says, "For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God." Christ died not only for our sins so that we can have eternal life, but that we might be shown the way to God. The whole point of the gospel is not just getting to heaven, but to see God. Piper also said, that our reward in heaven is God himself. We have access to the Father because of the death of Jesus on the cross (see Ephesians 2:18). Jesus even said he is "the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).

The gospel is all about Jesus showing us the way to God the Father so that we may seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 says that God rewards those who seek him and the reward is everlasting life and joy through Jesus.
