(The fear of the Lord) refers simply to an attitude of submission to, respect for, dependence on, and worship of the Lord...To fear God embodies faith and hope in God, as well as a genunine love for God. And when one, by the gift of God, possesses the fear of the God, sin loses its sweetness and strength, and obedience to the Word of God follows naturally because it becomes the delight of the soul...Therefore, the fear of God and obedience to his revelation are (in both Old and New Testaments) the two inseparable components of genunine faith-"the obedience of faith" (Rom. 1:5; 16:26)
