With 2012 upon us, many Christians, at least I hope so, are pondering what Bible reading plans to follow in the new year. Thankfully, Justin Taylor has a list of great Bible reading plans. Also Nathan W. Bingham has another list over at Ligonier.
I have been wondering what Bible reading plan I was going to go with. This will be my fourth year doing a reading plan, after years of skipping from book to book in the Bible. After much debating with myself, I seem to win and lose at the same time when I do that on occasion, I decided to go with the Book-at-a-time Bible Reading Plan from Discipleship Journal. I like this plan because it does take you through the Bible, but it skips around. For example we start in Genesis then go to Mark in the first column. The second column takes us to the wisdom literature of the Bible and Isaiah. It also has days for reflection, meditation, or catch up in case you miss a day or two:
In addition to reading the Bible, I think it is a good idea to also have a devotional along side you for further inspiration. Here are some that I currently reading or will read in the coming years.
Hope of Glory by Sam Storms
Biblegateway.com has Charles Spuregon's classic Morning and Evening available online.
Holiness Day by Day by Jerry Bridges. I am reading the Kindle edition.
