We Needed To Be Justified

Charles Spurgeon wrote, "It is a wonderful thing to be justified or made just. If we had never broken the laws of God we would not have needed it, for we should have been justified in ourselves." Think about for a second. If we kept everyone of God's law, we would not have needed to be justified in God's sight. Can you truly keep the law of God? Can you really obey all 613 commands in the first five books of the Bible? Can you do good works justify yourself before a holy God who hates sin and cannot look at it?Romans 4:5 says that God justifies the wicked.

Spurgeon said, "nobody else but God would ever have thought of justifying those who are guilty." Why do we need to be justified? Because we are all guilty before God by breaking his law. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23, ESV). We have all broken God's law, but there is good news. Those who come to faith in Christ "are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus" (Romans 3:24, ESV) Our justification is a gift from God just as eternal life is a free gift.

Praise God that we are justified by his grace and given eternal life though we have broken his law and deserve to be punished.
