Book Review: What Every Christian Needs To Know About The Qur'an by James R White

As Christians, it is important for us to know what other world religions believe for a couple of reasons. First, so that we will know the difference between that religion and Christianity. Second, we know what our friends believe who maybe part of that particular religion. Third, so we ourselves will not fall away from Christianity and embrace that religion.

It is sad to say that many people in the world today, including Christians, believe that all religions point to God and it does not matter which one you pick because you will end up in heaven. In fact, most people think Islam and Christianity teach the same thing. Is that true? Christians believe that the Bible is the final authority for our faith and practice. The Bible tells us the doctrines that God desire for His people to know. The Muslim holy book, the Qur'an, holds the same value to those in Islam.

James R White talks about what the Qur'an teaches in his latest book, What Every Christian Needs To Know About The Qur'an. White begins by stating that his study of the Qur'an was to fulfill three specific goals:

1. To honor Jesus, my Lord, my Savior, my King, through the defense of the gospel.

2. To bless the people of God by providing sound biblical and historical responses to Islamic claims in general and of the Qur'an in particular.

3. To be used of God to bring the glorious message of salvation in Jesus Christ to the precious Muslim people who honor the Qur'an.

White talks about the history of the Qur'an as it relates to the founder of Islam Mohammad and even gives a little history about him as well. The book deals with how Jesus is portrayed in the Qur'an as well as the doctrine of the Trinity as well as biblical texts that have been cited that hailed as prophecies regarding Mohammad.

Some people will look at this book and this is very academic. Truth be told, it is. It is important for Christians to know what other religions believe, as I mentioned earlier. This book is very helpful in understanding the Muslim holy book and how it came to be. With Islam being the fastest growing world religion, this is a very helpful resource to equip Christians so they will know what their Muslim friends are talking about when they are sharing Christ with them.
