Book Review: Innovation's Dirty Little Secret by Larry Osborne

Larry Osborne has been a voice in church leadership for some time now. His books Sticky Church and Sticky Teams have been received well by the church regardless of theological background. His latest book, Innovation's Dirty Little Secret has not only been well received by church leaders but also business leaders which make this book very unique. A pastor can actually recommend this book to a store manager or someone who owns their own business.

So, the question is, what is this dirty little secret that innovation has? Larry Osborne answers it in the first page of the first chapter:

What is the dirty little secret of innovation?
It's simply this: most innovations fail.
They always have. And they always will.

Osborne goes on to say:

A huge percentage of new initiatives never get off the ground, and among the few that do, many crash and burn with little fanfare. Why? Because if these failures aren't connected with our company or our employee (or something that makes the national news), we aren't likely to notice them.

In the book, Osborne talks about having an exit strategy, which is the first thing he talks about before even getting the innovation started. He goes to talk about having a vision for the new innovation as well how to get the word about it. As I said this book can be a book for church leaders as well as business leaders. Church planters will also benefit from this book.

Thanks Zondervan for letting me review this book.
