Book Review: Jesus Freaks by dc Talk and The Voice of the Martyrs

In 1995, Christian music fans celebrated the release of what many considered one the greatest Christians albums ever released, "Jesus Freak" by dc Talk. I remember being high school when this album was released. The Youth Ministry at my church received a VHS cassette of the music video to the title track, "Jesus Freak," which I think we watched for 2 or 3 consecutive weeks before our midweek service began.

Around four years later, dc Talk teamed up with The Voice of the Martyrs to publish a book on the story of those who have gone before us, who have given their lives for the advancement of the gospel. Many Youth Pastors I knew had that book on their desk or on their shelf to read. The book was titled Jesus Freaks. Bethany House  has released a revised and updated edition of the book, which happened to be released on the 25th anniversary of dc Talk's album.

This book, as I mentioned earlier, shares the stories of believers who have been martyred for the faith in various nations. Since this is a new edition, this contains stories from the original edition along with new stories that took place in recent years. These stories are no chronological order but they are there to tell stories of those who died for the faith. Some happened in their home countries while others were missionaries who went to other nations to preach the gospel.

If you have a previous edition to this book, you will need this one. If you have never read the previous editions, this is a must-have for your library.

I received this book from Bethany House in exchange for a review.
