Fearing God is to Hate Evil

The fear of Yahweh is to hate evil;

Pride and arrogance and the evil way

And the mouth of perverted words, I hate (Proverbs 8:13, LSB).

How blessed is the man who is always in dread,

But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity (Proverbs 28:14, LSB).

It is by this fear of the Lord that men depart from evil, shake off security, and preserve themselves from iniquity. Those who desire to keep the heart must partake with fear, rejoice with fear, and pass the whole time of their sojourning here in fear—all to keep the heart from sin.
