When Knowing the Bible Helps You Win A Game Show

I love Game Shows. I grew up watching them. At times, I would be watching Wheel of Fortune trying to guess the puzzle before those on the show could get it. Our Culture loves watching what people would do to get the most money they can. I guess that is why many people love Wipeout.

Recently, the Game Show Network came out with a new game called The American Bible Challenge hosted by Jeff Foxworthy, who is famous for making "You might a redneck if..." jokes. The idea of the show is like a trivia show on the Bible where the winner gets money donated to charity. The show has already broke a number of records in it's debut and the biggest age range of people watching the show is 25-52.

I feel that one misconception by the people watching the show is, the people on the show are Christians. A lot of times, we think by knowing the Bible means we are followers of Christ. Knowing the Bible is important because that is how God has revealed Himself through special revelation to His people. Without the Bible, we would have no knowledge of God other than the word of a preacher which could not be sound doctrine.

Jesus said, You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life (John 5:39-40). Knowing the scriptures can make you wise, but that is all it will make you. The Bible is all about Jesus. Jesus is Hero of the Bible. If all our Bible knowledge does not point us to Jesus then all we have the Bible is as a textbook for learning.

The Bible is alive (Hebrews 4:12) and profitable for training the saints of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Knowing the Bible does not save us, it points us to the One who gives us salvation.
