The Church Has Already Been Plan A

Jesus told the disciples to preach the gospel to everyone (Mark 16:15). The church is to evangelize. Unfortunately, many churches have left the responsibility to the pastors and evangelists. Many Christians think that living a good life is evangelism which is really not.

Jesus preached the good news as well as the Apostles. He is the one who charged the church to evangelize. That commission has not changed. I love this quote from Brett Storseth, Pastor of Fairway Baptist Church from a recent sermon:

The message of the kingdom is the message of Jesus Christ: that the Messiah has come and that the kingdom of heaven has come down to the kingdom of man. Jesus is the incarnate Son of God, and life can only be found through faith in Him. The message has not changed. We just fully understand it. The apostles, when they went out, didn’t completely see the message. They didn’t know that blood would be shed so that forgiveness could be delivered. They didn’t know all that would happen but they did know Jesus and knowing Him and seeing what he did created the message: the call to repent and to believe in Jesus.

We see the full message of the gospel but the principle stands, we must go into the harvest and we must preach the gospel, the good news of Jesus Christ. Nothing else will deliver, nothing else will change, nothing else will save. The gospel is the good news of salvation. That is the one thing that the harvest needs that only those who know Jesus can faithfully deliver.

Living the gospel always includes PREACHING it. You can’t live it without preaching it. You must proclaim the gospel.
