Jesus Is The True And Better King

I have been going through the book of 1 Samuel for the past couple of weeks. This book tells us how Israel demanded a king to be like the other nations. God granted their request and gave them a king named Saul. However, Saul was not obedient to the Lord and was rejected as king. Through Samuel, the last judge of Israel, The Lord told Saul, "But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought out a man after his own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you" (1 Samuel 13:14).

The Lord selected David, the youngest son of Jesse to be the next king after Saul. David honored the Lord in all his victories and even danced before him when the ark of the covenant was brought back to Israel (2 Samuel 6:16). Of course, when you read 2 Samuel, you know that David morally failed by committing adultery with Bathsheba and had her husband killed to so he can cover up that the fact that she was pregnant with David's child.

As I read 1 Samuel, this one thing that keeps coming to mind as I read the pages of Scripture; Jesus is the true and better king. Here a few thoughts on how Jesus is the true and better king:

Jesus is the true and better king because He will never ask His followers to anything that he will not be able to accomplish himself.

Jesus is the true and better king who will never be unfair to His people even when they deserve punishment.

Jesus is the true and better king who never lost His throne due to His death because, though He did die, He was raised back to life and continues to reign even though there is no king in Israel right now.

Jesus is the true and better king who never sinned and became the sacrifice required for us to have fellowship with God and gain access to Him.

Jesus is the true and better king where we can have access to his throne room 24/7 without making any appointments or going through a royal guard to have an audience with the King.

Jesus is the true and better king who slayed our giant called sin by being our substitute living the life we should have lived and died the death we deserved.

Jesus is the true and better king who His people yearns for his coming because He rules in righteousness and will restore this world exactly as God intended it to be in the beginning.

Jesus is the true and better king who did not built a temple for God's presence to dwell because He is the fulfillment of that temple and all believers become the temple of the Holy Spirit who put their faith and trust in Him.
