Book Review: Finding Your Way Back To God by Dave Ferguson and Jon Ferguson

Ever find yourself wondering away from God? Our hearts are prone to wander just as an old hymn says. There are times we do wander away from God whether it is because of unconfessed sin in our lives or just a period of dryness which we can experience from time to time.

Dave Ferguson and Jon Ferguson explore how we can make the journey back to the Father in their latest book, Finding Your Way Back to God. One of the main ideas of the book is that most Americans feel they are not connected to God and our authors give five "awakenings" that will help their readers to start connecting with God. They are:

Awakening to Longing: "There is got to be more."

Awakening to Regret: "I wish I could start over."

Awakening to Help: "I can't do this on my own."

Awakening to Love: "God loves me deeply after all."

Awakening to Life: "Now this is living."

The teachings of the book is based on one of Jesus' most famous parables, The Prodigal Son, which is where they get these five "awakenings" from. While there are scripture references in the book, there is not much depth, even though, there were a few spots where the gospel was pointed out but only in a watered, seeker-friendly way. This book had the feel of a self-help book that I cannot recommend it.

Thanks Multinomah for letting me review this book.
