Book Review: The Last Days According to Jesus by R.C. Sproul

As long as I can remember, people in the church have been talking about the end times. Whether it is from somebody on Christian television, Christian radio, the news, or even from the pulpit. The last days has always been a hot topic in the church and will continue to be until the Lord returns.

There have been many commentaries on Revelation and books written over the years that people in the church, and even those outside the church, will flock to purchase because of the mystery regarding the end times. Who can forget the Left Behind series which was one of the most popular Christian fiction series in the late 1990's that took nearly a decade to finish which include a prequel trilogy, which reminded me a famous Science Fiction prequel trilogy.

R.C. Sproul tackled the issue of the end times in his book, The Last Days According to Jesus. Sproul addresses some of the key questions when it comes to the end time such as:

What is the end of the age?

What is the millennium?

Who is the Antichrist?

What did John teach in Revelation?

What generation will witness the end?

All of these questions, along with some others depending on who it teaching, are the ones Christians constantly ask when discussing the end times. In case you are wondering if Sproul gives charts as to when he thinks the end will be, you will be disappointed because he does not give a chart nor a timeline to when the end will be.

Sproul also takes a look of the prominent view of the end times. One view that is commonly addressed in Preterism, which is the prophecies have already happened which concluded with the destruction of the Jewish Temple in 70 AD. Sproul does address premillennialism, postmillennialism, and amillennialism, which are the three dominant views of eschatology in the Christian church today.

Eschatology should not be avoided the plague, but Christians have done that over the years, which I am included in that list until the last few years. I am delighted to recommend this book for every Christian to read in their study of the end times and wrestle with the things Sproul has written.

Thanks Baker Books for letting me review this book.
