Christ is Our Covenant Head

In Romans 5, it is set in the covenantal context of the two heads of the humans race-Adam and Christ-which underscores Christ's active obedience for us and his passive/substitutionary death on our behalf by paying our penalty in our place. In addition, in Hebrews, one cannot think about Christ's obedience apart from his incarnation and identification with us (Heb. 2:5-18) for the purpose of dying on our behalf as our great high priest (Heb. 2:17-18; 5-10). Here we see how covenants, representations-substitution, obedience, priest, and sacrifice are linked together as Christ is presented as the new covenant head who identifies with us and dies for his people.
