In 2013, I had the privilege of reviewing the Gospel Transformation Bible which the purpose of it was to show the reader the whole story of the Bible and apply the gospel to everyday life. It is one of my favorite Bibles and one I frequently use. I have even shared a few quotes from it on the blog and sometimes on social media. One of the weakness of the Gospel Transformation Bible is that it was not as detailed as most study Bibles, which was not its purpose.
Crossway decided to update the Gospel Transformation Bible and make into a study Bible, which is appropriately titled, the Gospel Transformation Study Bible. The notes of the Bible have been updated and there are more of them. However, this is not like your typical study Bible where they brake down every single verse. The study notes are designed to show the whole story of the Bible, just like the Gospel Transformation Bible, as well apply the gospel to our lives.
Like its predecessor, the Gospel Transformation Study Bible has a team of scholars and Bible teachers that have contributed to the notes in each individual book. Scholars and teachers such as Greg Gilbert (Ezekiel), Ray Ortlund (Proverbs), Kevin DeYoung (Ephesians), and Burk Parsons (1 & 2 Thessalonians). There are also a few article towards the end of the Bible to assist us in seeing the Bible as a whole rather than separate pieces of redemption history.
How should one use the Gospel Transformation Study Bible? One can use it for study, whether personal Bible study or for a sermon, and you can also use it for a devotional as you read through the books of the Bible. I am excited about this updated version on one of my favorite Bibles and gladly recommend it to everyone.
Thanks Crossway for letting me review this Bible.
