My Top Albums for 2024 in 3 Genres

This year was another great year in music. There were a number of really good albums as well as some singles. It is at time difficult to decide which ones were the best or what would make a list of top albums, so I decided to do something a little different.

I am going to give you my favorite albums for 2024 in 3 genres as well as my favorite song from each one.

First, my favorite worship album is Knowing God by Sovereign Grace Music, which based on the classic book by J.I. Packer. My favorite song from this album Jesus, Our Judge and Our Savior:

Next, we go to rock, which my favorite album in this genre would be Revolution by Skillet. My favorite song, All That Matters:

Finally, you might not like this genre, rap. Yes, I said rap. I do not listen to a whole lot of rap as much as do other genres, but I did listen to this album quite a bit this year considering its based on a book by Voddie Baucham, Fault Lines produced by Wrath and Grace and performed by Timothy Brindle. The best song on the album, in my opinion, BLM (Blatant Lies Multiplied):

Glory to God in the Highest

Now it happened that in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus for a census to be taken of all the inhabited earth.

This was the first census taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria.

And everyone was going to be registered for the census, each to his own city.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David,

in order to register along with Mary, who was betrothed to him, and was with child.

Now it happened that while they were there, the days were fulfilled for her to give birth.

And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the guest room.

In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.

And an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people.

For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

And this will be the sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

“Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”

And it happened that when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.”

So they went in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger.

And when they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child.

And all who heard it marveled at the things which were told them by the shepherds.

But Mary was treasuring all these things, pondering them in her heart.

And the shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God for all that they had heard and seen, just as was told them.

Three Sovereign Grace Christmas Albums

Thanksgiving is over and the Christmas season has begun. Of course that means Christmas music being played in the mall, workplace, and the home. That also means 20,000 versions of the same song over and over again. There are some Christmas songs I love and there are some, not so much. I also love listening to new Christmas albums with original songs. Sovereign Grace has released a new Christmas filled with original songs for this time of year called "Heaven Has Come." They also have two previous albums, "Prepare Him Room" and "Savior" that I highly recommend:

Music Monday: Reformation Hymn from Sovereign Grace Music

Lyrics:

VERSE 1
Your Word alone is solid ground,
The mighty rock on which we build.
In every line the truth is found
And every page with glory filled.

VERSE 2
Through faith alone we come to You;
We have no merit we can claim.
Sure that Your promises are true;
We place our hope in Jesus’ name.

CHORUS
Gloria, gloria, glory to God alone
Gloria, gloria, glory to God alone

VERSE 3
In Christ alone we’re justified;
His righteousness is all our plea.
Your law’s demands are satisfied;
His perfect work has set us free.

VERSE 4
By grace alone we have been saved,
All that we are has come from You.
Hearts that were once by sin enslaved
Now by Your pow’r have been made new.

Additional final verse for Reformation Sunday:
And on this Reformation day
We join with saints of old to sing;
We lift our hearts as one in praise:
Glory to Christ our gracious King.
