Three years ago, I reviewed the NIV Zondervan Study Bible which was an excellent study Bible that focused on Biblical Theology. I was a little skeptical about because most NIV study Bible are not really in-depth as this one. Zondervan has recently republished this study Bible as the NIV Biblical Theology Study Bible which Westminster Bookstore is having a sale for one week on all four available editions:

Introducing the ESV Systematic Theology Study Bible

One Bible I have been excited about for sometime is the ESV Systematic Theology Study Bible published by Crossway, which published many great ESV Bibles such as ESV Study Bible and the Gospel Transformation Bible. This Study Bible has been put together with the sole purpose of showing how the Bible is one book rather than a collection of books. Here is a brief summary:

Theology should, first and foremost, be rooted in God’s Word. The goal of the ESV Systematic Theology Study Bible is to demonstrate how all Christian doctrine arises from the pages of the Bible. Created to help readers understand how Scripture forms the basis for our understanding of God, humanity, sin, salvation, and eternity, this study Bible features over 400 short in-text doctrinal summaries connecting Christian beliefs to specific Bible passages, 25 longer articles explaining important theological topics in greater depth, and introductions to each book of the Bible that highlight the unique ways each book contributes to the whole of Christian theology. Created by an outstanding team of editors and 26 contributors, this resource has been created to help Christians better connect what they believe about God with the very words of Scripture.

This Study Bible has articles and notes written by Biblical scholars and pastors such as J.I. Packer, Sam Storms, Michael Reeves, Fred Sanders, and many more. Here are just a few endorsements:

“The ESV Systematic Theology Study Bible is a gold mine of rich theology extracted from the deep quarries of Scripture. This valuable resource is easy to read and accessible to all, yet with a depth that will appeal to Bible teachers and church leaders alike. Its many doctrinal summaries and theological articles are strategically placed and show how the many threads of theological truth come together seamlessly to form one tapestry. Every reader who studies this invaluable tool will become a better theologian and a stronger believer.”

Steven J. Lawson, dean of the doctor of ministry program and professor of preaching, The Master’s Seminary; president and founder, OnePassion Ministries; author, The Kind of Preaching God Blesses

“If we hope to stand against the trends of our times, vague impressions will not suffice. We need nothing less than the mind of Christ, our Victor over all. The ESV Systematic Theology Study Bible can teach us to think the way Christ thinks, with his categories and his insights, clearly grounded in the words of Scripture. I rejoice at this impressive new resource that will serve to develop believers in this generation who are wise and courageous for God’s glory.”

Ray Ortlund, lead pastor, Immanuel Church, Nashville, Tennessee; council member, The Gospel Coalition; president, Renewal Ministries; author, Marriage and the Mystery of the Gospel

“This study Bible makes clear that Christian doctrine arises from God’s inspired Word. A rich store of notes and articles offers guidance in thinking theologically and coherently about God’s revelation in the Scriptures. Readers will find wonderfully accessible help in exploring the themes and doctrines that emerge from the Bible’s pages.”

Kathleen Nielson, author; speaker; senior adviser, The Gospel Coalition

If you are excited about this Study Bible as much as I am, then I have some good news for you. Westminster Bookstore has all three available cover styles at 50% off for one week. Those cover styles are:

Do You Control Your Phone—Or Does Your Phone Control You?

Have you gone to bed with your phone? Do you wake up wondering what someone on social media said? What games has you checking it every hour? Sadly, our phones have become a part of us though it may not be intentional, but it has. I think Tony Reinke's new book, 12 Ways Your Phone Is Changing You might be one of the most important books for 2017.

This video is the trailer to the book:

The book is now available at Westminister Bookstore. The following is a list of recommended resources based on their website (I have read only two of these books):

Created and Creating: A Biblical Theology of Culture by William Edgar

The Next Story: Life and Faith after the Digital Explosion by Tim Challies

The Things of Earth: Treasuring God by Enjoying His Gifts by Joe Rigney

Crazy Busy: A (Mercifully) Short Book about a (Really) Big Problem by Kevin DeYoung

Reformed Expository Commentary Series

A few years ago, I stumbled upon a copy of Daniel Doriani's commentary on the book of James. I read that book from cover to cover and was amazed at how well it was written. I did not know then that this was part of the "Reformed Expository Commentary Series" and there were other books like the one on James.

Years later, picked up Dennis Johnson's commentary on Philippians and it was amazing. Westminster Bookstore has a sale going with this series which includes the latest commentary from Iain M. Duguid on The Song of Songs.

To understand more of what these commentaries are about, here is a short video:

This sale will be going on until June 14, so take advantage of it.

Thankfully, Westminster Bookstore has made a list of books that may help you in getting books for the people in your life.

A Video on Westminster Bookstore

From time to time, whether on the blog or social media, I will refer to a sale or a new book release from Westminster Bookstore. I get most of my books from here because, at times, they are cheaper than the bookstores in town and on Amazon. This short video is about the mission of the bookstore.
