Pornography is an ongoing struggle for many in the church today. It is an ongoing struggle for those who lead the church today. I am reading that during a Promise Keepers rally for Pastors, the question was asked, "how many of you viewed a porn site a week before coming here?" About 90% of the room, filled with pastors, raised their hand.
What are ways that men can overcome their struggle over pornography through the lens of the gospel without being very moralistic about it? Heath Lambert shares eight gospel-centered strategies in his book, Finally Free. Before he shares those strategies, he writes about grace. Christians need to know that grace is the fundamental in dealing with not just the sin of pornography but all sin in general.
The eight strategies in dealing with pornography are:
1. Sorrow, godly sorrow to be more precise
2. Accountability
3. Radical Measures
4. Confession
5. Your spouse (or singleness), which I am glad he writes to single people in this book as well.
6. Humility
7. Gratitude
8. Dynamic Relationships
Now I know I am not doing any justice to the book by summarising what Lambert is saying, but this book is a book needed for our time. With the access to the Internet via smart phones and coffee shops with WiFi connections, pornography can be easily accessed more now than ever before. Pornography has destroyed marriages as well as a pastor's ministry. There are not many churches ready to help men to fight their sin especially through the gospel. This is a book I highly recommend all men to read even you do not struggle with pornography.
Thanks Booksneeze for letting me review this book.
