The ordinary means that the Lord uses in drawing a person unto salvation is the preaching of the word of God. The Spirit of God is at work through the means of the word rightly preached or proclaimed.
The preaching of the word, however, is not only a converting means, but it is also a continual means of grace in the life of the believer...The ministry of the word is not just for unbelieving sinners who need to trust in Jesus. The ministry of the word is of continued necessity for the believer as well. Simply put, the word is a means of conversion and an ongoing means of grace. Christ has accomplished everything necessary for salvation. He has sent His Spirit to convert the elect and to nourish them until they are with Him, and all of the work of the Spirit is a work of grace.
