I Am Sure You Have Noticed...

I am sure you have noticed by now that I have been posting a lot more than I previously have been over the last couple of years. I have to admit that there were times I wondered if I should continue posting here. I have been doing the majority of posting on X (formerly known as Twitter), Facebook, and Instagram. 

Back in December, I was thinking about what Bible reading plan I would be doing. I ended up choosing the 5x5x5 New Testament Reading Plan. My reason was simply to go back to basics. When I started reading my Bible, I read a chapter a day and it was not rushed. With this plan, I can do the same, however, it was only for 5 days a week. I decided to tackle the Psalms and Proverbs on the weekends for the foreseeable future. 

I am not trying to boast about my Bible reading plan. What I am simply stating is I am going back to basics as I stated before and that is where the blog comes in. When I first started Keeping the Main Thing, which was known as Chris's Blog (I know. Very creative), I wanted to share good Biblical content to anyone. I have shared videos, music, and even book quotes as well as some teaching from me. I tried to get away from that then realized there are a lot of them out there from men much smarter than me. 

What I am wanting to do is go back to why I started this blog, simply shared good, Biblical, Christ-exalting content whether it is me writing about a passage of scripture or sharing a sermon. I want to honor God on this blog whether it is my words or someone else. 

There was a point where I was posting every day, and I got burned out on blogging. I do not want that to happen again, so the post will not be every day, but I do hope to have at least one post per week (Lord willing). 

I want to thank everyone who continues to read and/or share these posts. Thanks for putting up with my lack of blogging over the last couple of years. I do hope this has and will honor God. People will come to faith in Christ and the gospel will be proclaimed. 

Lets Try This Again

Hello everyone. Hard to believe that my last post was October. I have to be honest, I never intended to be away from the blog for that long. So, I am hoping this time around there will not be a such a large gap between posts.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas season and a time of rejoicing celebrating a new year. I have to confess 2021 was a roller coaster for me. I won't go into great details, but I am thankful to the Lord for the time with my family and the time I have had to read and grow.

I really do hope to post more content this year. If not, I am still on social media. I have recently joined GETTR while remaining on Facebook and Twitter. 

Looking forward to see what the Lord does through the words on this blog and the content that I share on social media.

When Will I Return to Blogging?

Well, hello everyone. It certainly has been a while. It has been nearly two months since I posted on this site. I hope everyone had a great summer. I know there has been a lot that has happened including recent developments in the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) and following a podcast on the church formally known as Mars Hill.

I have had a lot going on that was preventing me from working on this blog. I have to admit there were days I wanted to write but held back. I have wanted to speak on the whole plagiarism that has been all over the SBC for the past few months, but did that on social media along with sharing posts from other sites. I also wanted to share my thoughts on that Mars Hill podcast, which I might in a later time. 

I am hoping to return to blogging more content soon. What I hope to do is write more articles than sharing videos, which there is nothing wrong with that. I will continue to share videos of messages that I hope will continue to edify the body on Christ online. I will mostly share videos on social media rather than on the blog, but that could change.

Another thing that I hope I will do is more Bible study on the blog. I am not sure how I want to go about that. My goal was never to replace the local church, but point people to Jesus and provide sound content to edify the body of Christ. So do not expect a sermon unless it one I preach in a church. I want to help the church online as best as possible and encourage believers as we sojourn in this world which seems to get a little more crazier each day, if you know what I mean. 

I am grateful to the Lord for giving me this site. I am grateful for all of you who have followed this blog even though there are tons of better sites than mine. I am also grateful for all who follow me on social media especially the past five years during Baseball season (Go Astros!!!). 

I am looking forward to see what the Lord will do through this blog. I am not sure when the next post will come or what it will be about, but my goal is to honor the Lord in all I say and do.

Favorite Blogs, Podcasts, and Websites - Part 2

I recently shared a couple of my favorite podcasts that I listen to. This week, I am going to share a few blogs that I visit and hopefully you will do the same. Disclaimer: I read quite a few blogs, so if yours is not on here, don't sweat. I will be posting a few more in the weeks to come (Lord Willing).

The first one that I want to point out is Servants of Grace. My friend, Dave Jenkins, along with a few other writers address theological issues as well as book reviews. What blogger does not like book reviews? Here is a list of contributors to Servants of Grace.

Next we have the blog from Desiring God which is based on the ministry of John Piper. Nuff Said.

The Gospel-Driven Church by Jared C Wilson is next. Jared writes on theology, quotes from books, and talks about upcoming ministry events he is involved in. If you want a good laugh, I recommend you follow him on Twitter as he does live tweets on NFL games he is watching especially if it is with the New England Patriots.

Kevin DeYoung is the writer of DeYoung, Restless, and Reformed. DeYoung addresses current events in the light of Biblical theology. Every Monday he adds a little humor to mix showing while most of his blog is serious, it is okay to have a little fun.

J.A. Medders is the Lead Pastor to Redeemer Church in Tomball, Tx. J.A. writes on church planting and theology.

Favorite Blogs, Podcasts, and Websites - Part 1

If you are a frequent visitor to Keeping The Main Thing, you know from time to time, I post articles or link from other websites. In fact on the right side on the site, you will see links that I recommend. Granted some of them have become out of date due to varying circumstances. So I decided to write about a few of my favorite websites/blogs that I recommend for everyone to go to every once in while.

Now I am not planning to write about every website in this one post. I do plan from write about these websites periodically. This is not a top 15 websites list but a list of sites that I encourage Christians to go to. I am not in competition with these sites, but view these sites are great tools that the Lord has given to the church.

So, here we go. Let me begin with two podcasts on the Internet that I go to.

The Gospel Friends. It is a few minister serving a church talking about topics that affect Christians as well as funny stuff. Their name is a spin-off from "The Super Friends," which is a TV show I grew up watching. Every episode starts off with an introduction like it is a trailer from a movie:

In a world where heresy blankets the airwaves, religious stuffed-shirts suck the life out of Sunday morning, and prosperity teacher rob grandmothers of their pensions, three unassuming ministers endeavor to shine the light of Biblical theology and put the fun back in fundamentalism.

Next we got The Reformed Pubcast. If you are a lover of beer and theology, this is the podcast for you. I will confess I am not a big beer drinker and it is not because I have been part of Southern Baptist churches for most of my life. I do enjoy listening to this because they discuss tough theological topics with Biblical conviction while discussing what they are currently drinking. From time to time, they will have a special guest on the show such as Tullian Tchividjian, James White, and R.C.Sproul, Jr.

Now you maybe thinking that I don't listen to sermons online. Nothing could be further from the truth. I do listen to them I just don't count them as podcast. Yes, I know that I weird.

As I am looking through the list of my top 5 posts in the past year, I could not help and see that Keeping The Main Thing has reached 10,000 readers. I want to thank everyone who takes to the time to read my posts. There are days I keep wonder do I ever make sense when I hit the "publish" button.
